Chapter 22 - Come with me?

The botanical garden is very large. In addition to all kinds of strange plants, there’s also a small bamboo forest courtyard and a peacock garden.

The bamboo forest courtyard is surrounded by green bamboos. After walking around the bamboo forest and stepping into the courtyard, you'll feel a sense of isolation and privacy.

There's a small pavilion at the entrance of the courtyard, which is used to enjoy the shade. There's a cup of tea on the pavilion. They don’t know who put it there. The teapots are all cold, but the teacups are very unique. Each teacup is engraved with a poem.

Shen An stood in front of the stone tablet with his bag on his back, reading the lives of historical figures recorded on it. Behind him, Bai Li lowered her head and looked at the small teacup on the stone table.

"Do you like it? We can buy a set when we go out later." Shen An stood behind her, leaned next to her, and looked down at the small tea cup on the table with her.

Bai Li squeezed her hands and didn't dare to look at him. She said in a small voice, "No, just...looking."

"There's a teahouse over there that specializes in selling tea sets." Shen An grabbed her wrist, lowered his back, and put his whole face in front of her, "Why don't you look at me?"

Bai Li's whole face turned red. She wanted to pull her hand away, but couldn't. She was so anxious that she was sweating and her voice was urgent, "I didn't..."

"Then look at me and talk." Shen An moved his fingers down a little and took her hand. The little hand was hot and the palm was sweaty.

Bai Li tried very hard, and after awhile, she looked up at him. He took away her sunglasses. The man raised his hand to take off her hat and brushed the broken hair on her forehead with his fingertips.

The wind blew by, and there was a different kind of gentleness accompanying his voice.

"There's no one else here, relax."

After saying that, he let go and turned around and entered the small courtyard.

Bai Li stood there, her heart so frantic that it almost jumped out of her chest.

At noon, they ate near the botanical garden. There was a self-service teahouse. Shen An asked for a private room. There was a fruit plate and melon seeds on the table. Shen An pinched a date and tasted it. Then he pushed the fruit plate aside and stretched out his left hand in front of Bai Li.

Bai Li was stunned for a moment.

"I'm going to get food." Shen An was half leaning on the table. His pure white shirt made his fingers slender and boney. A tattoo was faintly exposed on his wrist. He handed her his left hand again, he asked very gently, "Come with me?"

The tip of Bai Li's ears felt hot again. She wrung her fingers and didn't dare to look up at him even though she was wearing sunglasses.

He seemed to be getting closer, and his voice was getting closer.

"Put your hands up."

Bai Li looked at the clean and slender hands in front of her, her heart was beating as if it was about to explode, and her fingers were trembling unconsciously.

She can't do it.

After waiting for a while, Shen An gently wrapped his finger around hers. With a little force, he pulled her up and patted her head with his right hand.

"Forget it, maybe next time."

There were many people in the lobby outside, carrying plates to get food.

When Bai Li saw so many people, she lowered her head reflexively and pulled her hand back involuntarily.

Shen An used some strength to pull her into the crowd, tilted his head and asked her, "What fruit do you like? Cantaloupe? Dragon fruit? Mango?"

When she was so nervous that she almost collapsed, she realized that not many people were looking at her, and those people were all looking for food with their heads down.

There was also an extra plate in front of her. Shen An took the tong and handed it to her, and nodded at her, "Pick your own."

Bai Li’s wrist holding the fork trembled a little. She hadn't eaten in public for many years. The feeling of being so nervous that she was suffocating was still there. She didn’t focus on what her seeing but only to what she’s hearing. Dark and low-quality sound:

"Get an egg tart."

"Do you like this? Get another."

"Bai Li, get me a drink. I want something with ice."

In her nervousness, she listened to his instructions and picked up the food again and again. When she returned to the private room, she realized that she was sweating all over.

There were also two portions of cooked food on the table in the private room, one portion of blood glutinous rice* and red date porridge*, and one portion of glutinous rice balls*.

*

"Try them and see if you like any of them." Shen An sat down opposite her and handed her a cup of hot tea on the table, "This is black tea, with some milk added."

Bai Li thanked her softly, "Thank you."

"You're welcome." He stood up and went out. Not long after, he came back with a portion of the mooncake divided into pieces, placed it on the table, took a fork and handed it to Bai Li, "This is the eight-treasure mooncake, try it."

It seemed like he really took her out to taste mooncakes.

Bai Li thanked her softly.

Shen An also picked up a piece of moon cake, turned sideways and said, "I won't look at you, you can eat at your leisure, and we will change places after eating."

Only half of his face was exposed in profile, his chin was slightly raised, and his Adam's apple was unusually prominent.

Bai Li looked at half of his face, her heart trembled, her ears felt inexplicably hot, and her voice of thanks also trembled, "Thank you, thank you."

She took off her mask and sunglasses, picked up the mooncake in front of her with a fork and took a bite.

Red bean paste.

Shen An didn't know what she was thinking but the corners of her mouth curved slightly, revealing two cute pear dimples.

Shen An chewed the mooncake in his mouth, and raised the corners of his lips.

From this moment on, the Mid-Autumn Festival, which had been the most lonely time for him in previous years, was as sweet as the mooncake in his mouth.
