Chapter 21 - It’s quite sweet. 

Bai Li’s heart trembled again, the man had already led her inside.

It's a botanical garden.

It occupies an area about half the size of a gymnasium, but there are very few people coming and going. Perhaps because of the Mid-Autumn Festival, except for a few staff members, Bai Li saw almost no one after entering.

 

Her hand and arm that were held were both semi-paralyzed. She could barely feel the sensation in her arm now. She only knew that her palms were so hot and she was already sweating.

 

Shen An led her all the way to a stone bench surrounded by rocks and vegetation. Then he wiped the bench with a tissue and pulled her to sit down.

 

He took out a gift box of mooncakes* from his backpack, took out a red-wrapped mooncake and handed it to her, "Try it and see what flavor it is."

Shen An found a comfortable position, supporting his chin with his left hand and looking at her. Seeing her looking over, he curled his lips and smiled, "Okay, I won't look at you."

 

He raised his right hand to cover his eyes.

 

On the contrary, it made Bai Li even more embarrassed.

 

She held the mooncake hesitantly, and after a while, she gently took off her sunglasses and mask, lowered her head and took a bite.

 

It's chocolate filling.

 

"Is it delicious?" Shen An asked.

 

Bai Li looked up at him. He had slender fingers, his index finger and middle finger were pressed between his eyebrows, and his ring finger and little finger rested on his nose. A pair of dark pupils appeared in the middle, staring at her.

 

"..."

 

Her ears suddenly turned red and her voice trembled, "Yeah, it's delicious."

 

"Let me have a taste." He stood up and moved closer to Bai Li. He was so close that his warm breath blew on her face.

 

She even... heard the sound of his Adam's apple rolling.

 

Bai Li turned her face away in panic, feeling pressure on her hand. Her body trembled slightly, and she turned her head to look over, only to see the man lowering his head and biting the mooncake in her hand.

 

He licked the tip of his tongue and said, "It's quite sweet."

 

Bai Li looked at the mooncake in her hand and felt that the blood all over her body was burning.

 

How could he eat...the mooncake she had eaten.

 

"What's wrong?" Shen An asked knowingly.

 

Bai Li lowered her head, her eyelashes trembling. After a while, she said in a soft voice, "No, it's okay."

 

But she never dared to touch that mooncake again.

 

"Don't want to eat it?" Shen An saw her holding the moon cake with a stiff posture and her eyes lowered, like a student who had done something wrong.

 

Bai Li bit her lip and didn't know how to answer.

 

The mooncake in her hand had his tooth marks on the edge where he had bitten it.

 

There was a fire in her body, which made her throat dry, her palms sweaty, and her fingers trembled.

 

Shen An lowered his head and came closer, and took another bite of the mooncake she was holding. Her knuckles were stiff, and her hand let go of the mooncake. She saw him bite the mooncake and return to the stone bench to sit down.

 

His eyebrows were raised slightly, the corners of his lips were slightly raised, and he said vaguely, "Then I'll finish it."

 

Bai Li rubbed her index fingers. When Shen An took the mooncake away, his hot breath burned her fingers. Even now, her whole hand is tingling.

 

She was so confused that she didn't dare to look at him and only stared at the plants outside.

 

"Do you wanna go for a walk?" After Shen An finished eating, he put the mooncakes into his bag, put one hand on his shoulder, and handed the other hand to her.

 

Bai Li’s arms became sore and numb again. She lowered her head and turned away her face. Her voice was trembling due to nervousness, "Shen, Doctor Shen, we... are not suitable."

 

"Why not?" He was too tall, and his posture seemed a bit condescending. He put his bag on the stone bench, squatted on the ground, and looked up at her.

 

The golden sunlight shone sporadically on his face through the leaves, leaving a clear golden light that shone on his raised Adam's apple. As he spoke, the raised joint rose and fell.

 

"Do you think I'm old?"

 

Bai Li panicked and immediately shook her head, "No, no, I...it's me, I..."

 

"Since you don't dislike me…” He stood up with a smile and came closer, stopping at a just right position, looking straight into the eyes that were widened due to panic, and asked in a low voice, "Does that mean you like me?"

 

Bai Li’s face turned red suddenly, and she shook her head, "No, I don’t..."

 

Shen An pressed his thumb on her soft lips.

 

Bai Li seemed to be frozen, motionless, only her limbs were trembling.

 

He gently rubbed her trembling lips with his thumb and said in a low voice, "Bai Li, I don't want to hear you reject me."

 

He finally let go.

 

Bai Li exhaled nervously and took a step back involuntarily, her voice breaking, "Shen, Doctor Shen..."

 

"I lied.” He stood up slowly, looking at his thumb with his eyelids lowered.

 

Bai Li was confused, "Wha, what?"

 

He raised his eye and looked at her with dotted eyes, his voice low and hoarse, "When we were at the door just now, I promised you that we’re only holding hands."

 

With a "boom", Bai Li's ears caught fire, and the fire burned her entire body along her earlobe.
