Chapter 19 - Can we do something else?

It was already ten o'clock when Shen An got home.

He moved the flowerpot to the balcony, watered the flowers, then took off his clothes and went to the bathroom to take a shower.

He didn't drink much wine, but he didn't eat much food, and his stomach felt uncomfortable. He took a pill, leaned on the sofa, and took out his phone to check the messages.

It's dense red again.

He raised his eyelids and looked only at the top column, but the top column was empty, with nothing in it.

He touched the tip of his tongue to the edge of his teeth, pressed his thumb, and dialed the video call.

After waiting for a while, a reminder came: The other party declined the call.

Shen An: "..."

He put his hand to his eyebrows and chuckled.

He made a voice call instead and waited for more than ten seconds before Bai Li answered, but she breathed lightly.

"Aren't you asleep yet?" His deep voice was particularly hoarse due to drinking, "Or were you woken up by me?"

"No, no." Bai Li's voice seemed to be scalded, and her voice trembled obviously.

Shen An laughed, the laughter in his throat was so hoarse, which made Bai Li’s back go numb. Her face turned red, she held the phone in her hand and asked, "You, what are you laughing at?"

"I want to laugh when I hear your voice." Shen An's voice was extremely vague and hoarse, "Isn't it allowed?"

Bai Li: "..."

"Are you okay?" she asked softly.

Shen An smiled again, "No."

"..."

Shen An hasn't drank for several years. During festivals and parties, when others try to persuade him to drink, he always says he has a bad stomach and can't drink. It's not a lie. He really can't drink and his stomach is really bad.

Every time he drinks, his mood will fall into a low ebb.

But this was the first time that his mood suddenly improved when he heard Bai Li's voice.

"Let's chat." His voice was low and hoarse, accompanied by a bit of sultry drunkenness, and he looked extremely bewitching. "I am twenty-nine this year, and I will be thirty after the New Year. What about you?"

Bai Li hesitated for a long time before saying: "I’m... twenty-four."

"Twenty-four? You look like you’re eighteen." Shen An had already seen her ID card and knew her age. He just wanted to tease her.

Bai Li was silent as expected, and her face was probably red.

"You know my job, what do you do?" Shen An asked again.

"...Planning." Her voice was small, and she seemed a little embarrassed and nervous.

"I've never been exposed to it, so I don't quite understand it. Can you teach me someday?" he asked with a smile.

She didn't know how to answer at all, so she hesitated for a long time before saying, "...Okay."

"You always like to reject me when we meet, but you are so easy to talk to on the phone, huh?" His voice was very low, and his voice seemed to vibrate from his chest, which made Bai Li’s ears numb.

She was breathing unsteadily, holding the phone, and her voice was trembling, "No, no."

"No? Then tomorrow..." He breathed closer, his voice was obviously low and sultry, "Can we do something else?"

Bai Li's whole face became hot, her tongue was tied, and she stuttered when she spoke, "No, it can't be done."

She was extremely shy and hung up the phone in a panic after saying no.

Shen An looked at the disconnected phone screen, raised his hand to press his eyebrows, and couldn't help but raise the corners of his lips, feeling extremely happy.

The helmet purchased online finally arrived, and Shen An went to pick up the package from the courier early in the morning.

He was one of the many people who shopped online. When the delivery girl saw him coming, she blushed and asked him for the pick-up code. The box she brought over was a bit heavy, so she asked, "What’s in this? It seems a bit heavy."

"Helmet." Shen An took the utility kn*fe on the table and opened it directly. The pink helmet had a line of words printed on it: [Exclusive to Bai Li]

He curled his lips in satisfaction, took the helmet and left, leaving the box behind. "Thank you."

The courier girl stared blankly at the pink helmet in his hand that was incompatible with him, and then at the cardboard box beside her, her shoulders slumped slightly.

Turns out he bought it for his girlfriend.

"You’re a bit late today." The proprietress of the bun shop saw Shen An coming over. After taking a look, she quickly raised her head and looked again. Shen An had a pink helmet hanging on the front of the car, which was very conspicuous.

The landlady laughed happily, "You really found a girlfriend? Oh, where are you going? Isn't today the Mid-Autumn Festival?"

"Well, I’ll take her out for a walk." Shen An didn't ask for the buns, got out of the car and handed her a box of mooncakes, smiled at her and said, "Happy Mid-Autumn Festival."

The landlady was not polite to him. She took the moon cake and greeted him warmly, "You can come to my house for a reunion dinner tonight and bring your girlfriend."

Shen An smiled lightly: "No, she's afraid of strangers, wait until next time."

He waved to the proprietress and left on his motorcycle.

When he got up in the morning, he sent a message to Bai Li, saying that he would be downstairs at her house at about 8:30.

He arrived at 8:25, waited downstairs for a while, and called her, but she didn't answer. She picked up after the third time.

"Not getting up?" he asked.

"No, I...I...don't want to...go out." Bai Li refused in a low voice, and then apologized uneasily, "...I'm sorry, Doctor Shen."

"Did what I said last night scare you?" Shen An asked.

Bai Li’s ears felt hot when she thought of those words, "...No, no."

"Then why?"

"I..." She couldn't explain, and hesitated for a long time before whispering, "You... just don't look for me anymore."

Shen An had already stopped at the door of her room. His fingers lightly tapped on the door, and his voice was magnetic, "I'm here, open the door."

"..."

  1. Ugggh. I really hate the ML but I'm just gonna try to stick till the end so I'll know how this story ends. (Thank you T/L and all the team who made it possible to read this. My opinion is solely based on the plot alone and never in regards to your hardwork)

  2. I
I'm really curious about how their relationship will get better

  3. I like the male lead. He’s helping her, she’s helping him in their own ways

  4. I also like the male lead. He might seem pushy but it'll never work out if he's not. Between them he has to take the initiative all the time. It might seem as if she's living fine but she's actually so anxious and scared and jittery of outside world. She needs someone who can push her to see and do things that makes life fulfilling and she can actually be happy and in turn she makes him happy too.i think it's a win win situation saving them both from loneliness.
